GCP Brazil publishes results of collective alignment on Regenerative Coffee Farming

GCP Brazil has been championing regenerative agriculture as it has been gaining momentum in the coffee sector as a way to restore soil health, combat climate change, and enhance farmer livelihoods. While there are many approaches and frameworks available in the Brazilian coffee sector, and several GCP Members are incorporating Regenerative Agriculture practices, there was a need for aligning concepts for implementing regenerative coffee farming.

To address this challenge, GCP Brazil has led a collective work to map and harmonize concepts and practices of regenerative farming. This effort engaged over 70 technicians and specialists from more than 30 organizations, including technical assistance and rural extension agencies, associations, cooperatives, exporters, roasters, certifications and civil society. Over a 10-month period, the team convened four meetings, including a field day, a webinar, and in-person workshops with renowned specialists and researchers that actively contributed to the development of a comprehensive resource.

The result of this work is the document 7 Elements for the Implementation of Regenerative Coffee Farming, which is available in English.

This material has been integrated into the 2030 GCP Collective Action Plan in Brazil. The primary objective of this program is to increase climate resilience and ensure the prosperity of 95,000 coffee growers by 2030.

Work on this agenda is ongoing. The Brazil Working Group, along with other GCP Members, is now focused on defining indicators to monitor the adoption and progress of regenerative practices in the field. This process is expected to continue through 2025.
