The latest from Brazil: Training and presenting the fundamentals of the CSC

Over 37,000 visitors attended the 16th edition of FEMAGRI over 3 days, 6% more than last year. FEMAGRI is one of the most important coffee events in Brazil, promoted by Cooxupe, the major coffee cooperative in Brazil and GCP member.
During FEMAGRI, the 18 fundamental items of the Coffee Sustainability Curriculum were promoted to coffee growers, using the “GCP little farm model” to illustrate the main topics to be focused to make their production sustainable.
The GCP videos shown at the event are also available on the GCP YouTube channel (only in Portuguese).
GCP-Brazil, represented by Carlos Brando, had an important meeting with Arnaldo Jardim, Secretary of Agriculture of São Paulo State to present GCP Program last achievements, plans and the Coffee Sustainability Curriculum (CSC).
During the productive meeting, the Collective Methodology of Technical Assistance (MATC) was discussed as an alternative to increase the efficiency of Extension Services.
The GCP program results, including the success of the Digital Coffee Farmer Program and plans were presented to the Sustainability Committee of the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafe).
The discussions concentrated on the challenges of implementing sustainability and the opportunities of increasing partnerships and synergies, including the “CSC Tool” (app) to monitor the implementation of the practices and the GCP indicators discussion.
Future agronomists from the UFSJ (Federal University of São João del Rei) joined the Train the Trainers on the Coffee Sustainability Curriculum. Students were highly satisfied and evaluated the training as very important for their careers.
We will soon share more information about the meeting, where GCP members will discuss important steps for the GCP in Brazil.
