Xinia Chaves

Xinia Chaves Quirós is a lawyer and passionate Coffee producer from Costa Rica. As a woman, she has broken many paradigms in the governance of the National Coffee Activity. This has led her to serve as the first female president of the Management Board of the Palmares Coffee Producers Cooperative for over 14 years. She has also served as president of SINTERCAFE and was the first woman to be Vice minister of Agriculture during the Costa Rica’s government of 2010-2014. She served as the first female President of the Board of Directors of PROMECAFE and the first female Executive Director of the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (ICAFE) 2018-2022.
Since the beginning, she has embraced with great enthusiasm one of the most important projects of the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica: The Café de Costa Rica: Traceability & Sustainability Statement, which with her leadership seeks to transparently communicate strategic information along the coffee value chain of Café de Costa Rica.
She is a strong believer and executor of the institutionality that comes from the 2762 law, the only law in the world that promotes a unique and fair production model among national Coffee Producers, Mills, Roasters and Exporters, which is the fundamental tool in defense of the National Coffee Sector.
