GLOBAL COFFEEPLATFORM

National Platform in Honduras starts the year at full steam

The Platform’s Coordinating Commission held its first session of 2019 last 21st of January in San Pedro Sula, where Global Coffee Platform communicated the support and commitment to the Honduras Sustainable Coffee Platform.

During the meeting, GCP explained its role as facilitator to strengthen performance of the new Platform, specifically in three areas: “Small Farmers, Women and Youth representation”, “Lobbying and Advocacy”, and “Self-financing mechanisms”. In 2019, GCP will also enable the development of the National Sustainability Curriculum of Honduras, one of the most important tools proven effective in other countries to align existing knowledge materials and improve sustainable coffee farming practices.

The participants in this session also discussed the importance of innovation in the coffee sector and considered it a “cross-cutting issue”. Therefore, the Honduras Platform is currently supporting the development of a GCP Member Initiative, in which Yara International and other partners will participate, to improve soil conservation in coffee regions.
