84.500 farmers benefit from the Master Trainers program in Indonesia

It has been almost 2 years since SCOPI promoted the training of Master Trainers (MTs) in Indonesia to actively conduct training of farmers in their working areas. Up to this date, 184 MTs are actively promoting sustainable practices in 15 provinces across the country.

SCOPI’s Master Trainers program has provided direct support to approximately 84.500 small holders in Indonesia. This initiative seeks to empower coffee farmers through an intensive training on sustainable practices and post-harvesting training by using the National Sustainability Curriculum and the Manual of Sustainable Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and Post-Harvest of Robusta Coffee (NSC-R) and Arabica Coffee (NSC-A).

The NSC is currently being disseminated by Master Trainers (MTs), who are trained by SCOPI after being nominated by SCOPI Members and Partners from local governments, NGOs and private companies. Most of the MTs are governments extension workers, company’s agronomists and staff working directly with the farmers in the field/upstream.

Master Trainers Awards

To foster and appreciate the hard of the Master Trainers, SCOPI awards the MTs in the following categories:

  • Best Achievements
  • Best Master Trainers
  • Provinces with Most Trained Coffee Farmers

Additionally, there is a Quiz competition called “Cerdas Cermat”, in which the knowledge of MTs is also rewarded. The winners of the “Best Achievement” category also receive scholarships for a Cupping and Q&R Grader Class, a collaborative contribution from all SCOPI Members.
