Climate change is putting coffee production and the livelihoods of coffee farmers at risk. Changes in temperature, rainfall and extreme weather events directly affect coffee quality and productivity. Global warming also contributes to the proliferation of coffee diseases and pests which can lead to lower crop yield and threatens the livelihood of coffee growers. Climate smart agriculture is an approach that helps to guide actions needed to transform and reorient agricultural systems to effectively support development and ensure food security in a changing climate.
