Honduran Platform flourishes as new agreements are unveiled

Last year marked a milestone in Honduran coffee as several stakeholders from the coffee sector gathered in a meeting to discuss next steps to consolidate a coffee sustainability platform. The event, facilitated by the Global Coffee Platform, UTZ and Solidaridad, set next strategical steps to generate collective impact.

The third meeting of the Honduran coffee sector registered 34 participants from different levels of the value chain including government representatives, producers, traders, rosters and civil society. The event explored different approaches regarding common and critical topics on the sector: child labor, increasing production, exportation to other countries and the global agenda towards coffee sustainability.

Guillermos Belloso – GCP Manager Latin America – shared as successful examples the current development of the Brazilian and Colombian Platform, each one evolved over the years according to the respective country’s needs, reaching out new families of farmers and impacting the quality of coffee and livelihoods simultaneously.

The meeting also operated as a workshop to reflect the participants’ expectations for the platform, as well as defining its future model of governance, mission, vision and strategic models. The results from the activity can be seen in this document (in Spanish):

The next steps will be reflected in the upcoming meeting in February.
